Sixbit is well thought out except for listing efficiency. We are a very high volume business so efficiency is paramount. Here is my considerably long list of what it would take for this lister to be perfect.

1. Add a CTRL+D shortcut which triggers "duplicate listing", AND automatically opens the duplicate into editor. Right click, duplicate, scroll down, double click to open is ridiculous. I roll my eyes every time I have to do this, which is over 300 times a day.

2. Add "title" and "condition description" check boxes to the Custom Duplication list. I don't want the title or condition description duplicated when I duplicate an item. Can this list be set differently on different computers? If not, we need it to be.

2. Category selector is extremely inefficient. We really need this to be addressed.
A. Category tier arrows are incredibly small targets to hit with a mouse click. It's impossible to go quickly. Remove the arrows, and add a large clickable category box
dedicated to the next tier that is being selected. (see attached image of category selector from our previous lister which is far superior)
B. The drop-down lists need to be Keyboard searchable. So if I type D then it jumps down to the first in the list that starts with D, or if I type "Den" it jumps down to Denmark.
Having to look down the whole list to find it everytime is SO SLOW.
C. The category ID box needs to have a dedicated section that is shown all the time. I use this constantly, and having to click the icon to show the box, then select the box,
then type, then click ok is SLOW. The box should always be there, and Enter key needs to trigger "OK". (see attached image)
D. Store category lists are in completely random order. It should be alphabetical. I would prefer that the tiers are eliminated entirely and make it one long list. If you're going to
insist on selecting each tier separately, find a way to do away with the tiny arrows. We need large targets for speed.

3. Icon to add pictures is way too small. Make the whole white space in the picture area clickable to add pictures (if none are present). Bigger targets are better.

4. Would like a section in Options with checkboxes for every line item in the listing editor. There probably 10 fields on my screen right now that we never use (yes, I've already customized the window), and I'd rather not have them there jumbling up the screen.

5. Would like the shipping tab to only contain the shipping policy box. I would like to see that box all of the time, but I don't want to see the other fields that are on the shipping tab.

6. Would like the submission process to be slightly changed. Currently, I select scheduled time, submit, and then pictures start getting uploaded. However, I don't know how long that's going to take. So sometimes I guess wrong, and the pictures are finished a few minutes after I scheduled my first item. Then, I'm assuming sixbit dumps the ones up there all at once that are now past on their scheduled time. This is not good for auction items. We need them spaced apart. Ideally, should be able to highlight items, click submit button, then there should be a button in that window to submit pictures. Once the picture have submitted, now I can set their scheduled time.

7. Maybe I just haven't figured out how to do this yet, but we need to be able to set different "look and feel" settings on different computers. We have different size monitors and need different settings. Right now, when somebody changes it, then all the other computers change when sixbit is restarted.

8. As other users have requested, allow pictures to NOT be auto-renamed when stored outside of the database. Our SKUs match our picture names, and an easy way for us to double-check that the correct pictures have been added is to glance at the filenames. Since we had to switch over to pictures outside of the database, I'm getting constant complaints from my listing assistants that the filenames no longer match.

Adam,

We've implemented some of your requests and have responses to others below.

1. Please note that the currently released beta has an option to have the Item window opened immediately upon duplicating an item. You can set it under Options|Creating Items. Also, we use the Microsoft Fluent UI standard ribbon bar. As part of that standard, the hotkeys are defined using the Alt button. If you click the Alt button you will see a letters appear in the ribbon. Selecting letters drills down to further functionality. In the next beta, I have updated and enhanced the efficiency of these hotkeys. For example, to duplicate an Item you would use Alt-I-D (you don't have to hold them all down at once, just click them in that order). To add a new Item, it's Alt-I-A, etc. With these two changes, you should be able to simply select an item and use Alt-I-D to duplicate and open an item ready for entry.

2. The Title is the only field that is required to create a new item before it can be opened, so we have to put something in there. We currently use the existing title. For database integrity reasons, we can't exclude the title. We will add the item condition as a request.

2. We'll take a look at your category selector issues to see what we can do. Note: From Options|Creating Items, you can choose to have your store categories alphabetized instead of showing in the order they are returned from eBay.

3. Double-clicking the empty picture well will now open the Add picture window.

4. For design purposes, I'd like to know which 10 fields you never use. This will help me with my considerations.

5. We'll look at making the shipping and other preset values collapsible.

6. In the next beta (3.00.228), you will find an "Upload" button on the Sell Items ribbon bar in the Pictures group. This will allow you to upload the pictures before you open the submit window.

7. The "look and feel" settings are generally individual user preferences, not computer based preferences. They are stored with each SixBit user login. For each person to have their own settings, just create a user for each person from File|Manage|User Permissions. When starting SixBit they would logon with their given userid and then can save their own look and feel options.

8. This is a very dangerous request. The reason that we forced our own names is because during the initial stages, when we did not, we ran into several cases where users were using the same filenames and overwriting images. The result is frustrated, angry users asking us why we are listing their items with the wrong pictures. Let me give you some scenarios.

Since all pictures are stored in the same folder, any new file with the same name as an existing file will overwrite the old one. So if one user creates catplate1.jpg and another user had already created a file of the same name, the original file will be overwritten and both listings will end up with the pictures from the latest item. Also, some cameras automatically name pictures (i.e. DSC000191, DSC000192, etc.). Often, the numbering will start over when a new memory card is used or if a different camera is used. This makes it very easy to have pictures overwritten with pictures of totally different items.

SixBit places pictures in the folder and expects them to be there. Manually working with the pictures in a folder can also cause issues and get the database out of synch. For example, if an employee decides to rename or remove a picture, the database will never find the picture again. Simply backing up the folder won't be enough either, since at any given point in time, SixBit is expecting certain files to be in the pictures folder. All backups will need to be done from within SixBit.

When pictures get out of synch, it is pretty serious...
- users get really mad at us when it happens
- it takes a long time to identify the problem
- it can result in the loss of pictures that can't be retrieved
- it eats up a lot of support time trying to figure it out

We are contemplating adding the option to allow users to keep the original names, but it will come with a serious warning about the implications. If using this option, we also won't be able to provide support for the issue if pictures do get mixed up.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply John!

2. Our previous lister was able to add this for us so we could save the step of having to erase the title every time. I wonder if the problem is a little bit different process where duplicating in our previous lister didn't actually create a new item until pressing "save and exit". Sixbit creates a new item immediately. I still would like to see this changed if possible.

2 (#2 :)). Thank you so much for looking into the category selectors!

4. List of unused fields currently on my screen (Most unused fields are hidden by customizing the window)
Product ID + dropdown box
External ItemID
This item has variations check box
Check item
eBay title
Auction buy it now
Auction reserve
Payment Policy
Return Policy
Package Size
Irregular package check box
Override policy check box

8. I understand your concerns and appreciate the examples you provided. Fortunately, none of those examples apply to us. Each person working has a roll of SKU numbers in their hand. Pictures are named by scanning the SKU for that item, then adding A B C etc. It is therefore impossible for two different users to produce 2 of the same filename. Similarly, since all pictures are renamed to the SKU, the camera filename rollover isn't an issue.

Occasionally, a user will forget to put a SKU number in the SKU box. If the pictures were named the SKU, then it is easy for us to tell what the SKU number is supposed to be. However, since sixbit renames them, it can be a problem trying to figure out where that item is to see what SKU is on it.

A couple additional requests:

1. We're currently working in a list of ~1500 items which are partially finished. Once we finish an item, we drag it over to an appropriate folder, after which sixbit jumps back to the top of the list. Then we have to scroll back down through 1500 items to find the next item we're trying to finish. If possible, please eliminate the jumping screen when dragging and dropping, and when deleting items.

2. When option is checked to not allow titles longer than 80 characters, one beep would be sufficient when hitting the 80 character mark. Currently, when we reach 80 characters we get a beep, and then when we cursor over to find something to remove we get constant beeping with every stroke of the arrow key. It should beep once, or not at all.

3. Please set recently used categories to only display categories recently used by that user if possible.
In other words, I don't want to see our other employees recently used categories on my list.

4. A nice feature we had in our previous lister which I'm finding myself missing a lot is a "space limiter". In the title box, it's quite helpful if the program allows a maximum of 1 space in a row. This is great for efficiency. Sometimes you forget whether or not you added a space, and it can difficult to tell by looking at the box. If you add another space to check but there already was a space there, then you have to backspace to start typing. With a limiter, I can hit space as many times as I want and I know there will only be 1 there. This helps to make the most use of the 80 character limit on eBay.

5. Going back to the category selectors, I think it may be helpful to point out that I'm using a touch screen, and so the problems described in that request are even more pronounced for me. In fact, those problems carry over to most aspects of sixbit. Most of the buttons are just too small to make clicking with my finger efficient, so after a couple misses with my finger I resign and go grab the mouse to do it. Personally, I would find it greatly helpful if there were some more customization options for enlarging different aspects of the software to make it more touchscreen friendly.

6. Please allow editing of an item while the picture editor window is open.

7. Would really like a button added to the pictures tab for merging photos together. Ideally we could highlight the pictures desired, click "merge", and be given an option of how the new picture should be arranged (vertically, horizontally, or if more than 2 then in a square formation). This new created photo would be in addition to the ones already there, not replacing them. We're currently doing this externally and it takes longer than we'd like.

That would be sweet... Amazing idea!

I think I probably use SB on a very simplistic basis compared to most people but I have some input relative to the first post

1--I actually don't like that feature but like that is is now an option in the Duplicate window---I did not like that it was auto-checked in the latest release because I panicked the first time it happened and thought it was yet another glitch....this was during the EBAY glitch fiasco in the last couple weeks and I was already on edge. But then I unchecked the box and all was well.

2--(the 2nd #2) Categories..YES I have complained about this in the past...the target on the arrow being so small..both in the field itself AND the arrow to the right for "recent" categories

A--when I used Blackthorne, it did something better where the next level of category auto opened up without needing to be clicked...I wish SB did that too because I also find this a time consuming limitation as I use 50-100 different categories listing antiques/collectibles. I do like that they increased the "recent" menu from 10 to 20 and wonder if it would be easy to allow users to set the menu length themselves although I am probably a vast minority in wanting that....I'd probably set it to 100 and would also like the option to rename and EBAY category in that window to something shorter and of my own making--but I am sure this is not a need/want shared by very many people

B--I can see where that would be valuable

C --while there was something improved about this over last year, I think it is still inefficient also

D--glad I read John's response as I did not know this could be fixed !

3-I use manual URLs and also find the icon too small and the toolbar cluttered. I do not use half of those icons

4--columns I never use ?
Product ID, SKU, SubStatus, Last Cost, To Ship, Uncommitted, Unlisted, Supplier, Restock At, Stock Total, Payment Preset, Theme, Counter, Created/Last Modified/Last Listed/Last Purchased Range, Wt Maj/Min, Length/Width/Depth....

I am guessing Adam uses a higher version than I do since some of his fields are not in my version...and yes I realize (and have done) you can make Custom views

on a tangential note, I also wish SB was not paralyzed/unuseable during so many functions like refresh, listing, revising, etc

8. - I'm in favour of having the option to retain original picture names. Something I've been asking for for awhile. Wouldn't it be possible to just have a view showing the original picture name while retaining SB picture names?

I believe SixBit should come with an initial guide tour, setup questions, options, selections, and customize itself, options, view grids, template, payment, presets, etc.. based on the selections / answers from each individual. it will simplify the process for many people, and they will get what they want.

Also, when you import settings from another database, I would appreciate adding
1- View Grids (as customized)
2- Templates
3- Users
I had to create a new database for eBay CA site, and now I have to re-create and re-customize all of the above.

A few updates...

In the current beta (3.00.274)

- the user can now keep the original name of the picture files. If you go to Options|Pictures|Management, you can now select an option that "I'll ensure my picture names are unique....". When adding pictures, the original name will be saved and used.

- users can change the item with the Picture window open.

In the next beta (3.00.275)

- The issue with the extra beeps when the title is 80 characters is fixed.

- The "space limiter" has been ended so double spaces can't be added as you are entering the title.
