Sharing a Database with a Remote Connection

Sharing a database with a remote connection is the easiest way to access your data remotely; it involves installing one of many commonly available programs that allow you to see what is happening on one computer from another.   You have probably heard of LogMeIn or GoToMyPC which are two of the more common methods of viewing a remote computer.  Other viable solutions are TeamViewer and the Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) tool.

When using a remote connection, you are not actually running SixBit on the local computer.  You are watching it run on another computer.  Because all that is being transferred across the internet is the video image, you may get a better response time than if you were actually pulling the data from the remote computer.  The one downside is that while you are connected to the remote computer no one else can use it.   A remote connection is most useful to people who want to be able to still have access to SixBit while they are at work or on the road, and no one else will be using the host computer at that time.

Setting up a remote connection is beyond the scope of this document, however, visiting the provider site will provide additional information on this topic.  The common remote connections can be found at www.logmein.com and www.gotomypc.com.
