One of the many ways we help our sellers be more successful is by offering discounted shipping insurance.

Ok, first things first, how much is it?

Here is our price breakdown.


Domestic Shipping Insurance:  $0.99 per $100 of coverage up to $2500 (First Class up to $1000)
International Shipping Insurance: $1.25 per $100 of coverage up to $2500 (First Class up to $1000)

By comparison, USPS charges $1.75 up to $50, $2.25 between $50.01 - $100, $2.75 between $100.01 - $200.00 and $4.70 between $200.01 - $300.00.

Note: USPS Express Mail automatically covers the first $100.  You only need to purchase insurance for packages with a value greater than $100.

UPS and FedEx

UPS and FedEx provide coverage for the first $100.  You only need to purchase insurance for packages with a value greater than $100.

Domestic and International Shipping Insurance:  $0.65 per $100 of coverage up to $2500

You can see it doesn't take long for the savings to add up using our insurance provider.  If you insure only 8 $100 packages using USPS a month, you save enough to pay for a Home and Hobby subscription.  Only 20 $100 USPS shipments a month pays for a Small Business subscription.

Why should I buy insurance?

No matter how careful you pack an item, you can never be 100% sure a package won't get broken, lost or stolen.  Shipping problems will occur and by purchasing insurance you are gaining peace of mind for both you and your buyers.

Why should I use SixBit's shipping insurer?  Why wouldn't I just purchase insurance from my carrier?

There are many reasons, but the three most important ones are because it is cheaper, faster and easier. 

Just compare the costs to see how quickly the savings will add up.  By buying insurance in bulk, we can pass the savings on to you making your business more profitable. 

Also, the entire shipping insurance process is integrated within the program.  With just a few clicks, you can bulk purchase insurance.  Cancelling insurance or filing claims are also just a click away and we'll have most of the claims information already filled out for you. 

How can SixBit offer shipping insurance for less than the major carriers?

By using our buying power, we can acquire shipping insurance at prices far lower than the major carriers are willing to offer.

How reliable is SixBit's shipping insurance?

SixBit's insurance is provided by a third-party company called Shipsurance.  Shipsurance is a leader in the industry and provides insurance for many other eCommerce applications.

How do I add shipping insurance to a shipment?

Adding shipping insurance is as simple as selecting the orders to insure, clicking the "Insure" button, and a "Purchase Now" button.

How am I billed for shipping insurance?

If you have a credit card on file for your subscription payments, your insurance purchases will be charged to the same card. For small purchases, these will appear on your next invoice.

If you don't have a credit card on file, you can add funds to your account through PayPal to be used as you insure your items.

What if I make a mistake.  Can I cancel the insurance?

Absolutely.  You can cancel insurance up to 24 hours after you purchase it.

How do I file a claim?

Once you have purchased insurance, the "Purchase Now" button will turn into a "Cancel" button.  After 24 hours, the "Cancel" button will turn into a "Submit Claim" button.  It's as easy as clicking the "Submit Claim" button and finalizing a few missing fields.

How do I check on the status of a Claim or send additional required information?

In the Insurance Window, you'll see a button to check Claim Details. Clicking that will take you to the ShipSurance page for SixBit, where you can enter the claim number to check and/or update with supporting materials.

Can I use SixBit's shipping insurance even if I don't list with SixBit?

Yes.  If you are in the process of converting to SixBit, or if you just want to try our shipping insurance, all you have to do is import your items from eBay and then purchase insurance from the 'Ship Orders' mode. 

What methods of USPS shipments are covered?

All domestic and international USPS shipping methods are covered, including USPS International First Class which cannot even be purchased through the USPS.  By using SixBit, you have access to all the coverage you need.

What countries can I ship from?

Our coverage only includes shipments originating in the US or Canada.

What items are excluded from coverage?

The following is a list of exclusions not covered:  Accounts, bills, currency, cash in transit, evidence of debt, checks, money orders, COD payments, coins (collectible coins are not excluded), securities and other negotiable papers, tickets, deeds, notes, gift cards, manuscripts, documents, neon items, hazardous material (per UPS Hazardous Materials List), LCD monitors or screens, televisions (including LCD, plasma, CRT, projection, and similar), perishable cargo or similar property, eggs, any stone or ceramic slabs, automobiles, motorcycles, live animals, flowers, plants, seeds, cigarettes/cigars, cotton, guns (guns more than 100 years old are not excluded), tobacco, windows, plate glass, stained glass, float glass, laptop computers (including tablet computers, iPads, and similar), and mobile telephones (including cell phones, smartphones, messaging phones, iPhones, Android phones, blackberry phones, and similar). 

What countries are not covered?

Shipping to the following countries is not covered:  Abkhazia, Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola (including Cabinda), Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burma, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Chechnia, Congo, Cuba, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea - Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, truck/rail shipments to and within Mexico other than as a connecting conveyance,  Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Papua/New Guinea, Paraguay, Qatar,  Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Venezuela, and Yemen. Any location that would be in violation of any U.S. economic or trade sanctions including OFAC Restricted Countries. For shipments to Russian and other Commonwealth of Independent States countries (includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan) coverage ceases upon touchdown of the aircraft at the airport of destination or upon discharge from the overseas vessel at the destination discharge port. 

Are there limitations on shipping jewelry?

Yes. Jewelry (includes necklaces, earrings, watches, rings, bracelets, broaches, etc) with a value of $500.00 or more must be sent with the direct or adult Signature Confirmation service provided by the shipping carriers (must be signed for at delivery). This service is available by most shipping carriers.
